I'm going to Thailand on holiday tomorrow (Phuket) Is there any info I should know before going?

Recommendations, do's & don'ts, things I haven't thought of, that kind of thing.

There's lots of expat's in Phuket.

If you like jogging and drinking, then look up the Hash House Harriers there. They will look after you like you can't believe, and will give you all the current inside info. I'm not sure where they meet now, but any ex-pat will know. The Saturday family Hash has lots of Thai women who run businesses, and they are great fun. Call in and see Big John in the Shipwreck, and tell him David from Chiang Mai, now in China sent you. He'll put you straight.

Have fun. I know I did.

Be respectful and bow as you say hello (hello is pronounce sa-wa-dee-kaa).

Give respect for the King at all times, they love him genuinely and rumour has it that you can get in some legal trouble if you say anything bad about him.

Also, look at the website I have sited. Tons of stuff on there from people living in Thailand

yes...itll be sunny, and watch out for gary glitter.

Don't fight in a Maui Taui (kick boxing)tournament.......lol

You lucky so and so! Don't need to rub it in, you know!

PHUCKET IS OVER RATED ,I HAVE NO IDEA WHY ANYONE LIKES THE BEACH ITS NOT THAT GOOD AT ALL ADF THE TOWN ISNT SO GREAT, IT DOES HAVE SOME NICE HOMES AROUND THE ISLAND BUT SO WHAT

Take marmite as mosquitos hate it!

Yeah dont use that word everytime somrthing go's wrong.

Phuket is not so wonderful. When you have had your fill of the tourists and the street vendors at Patong beach, head to the southern end of the island and do some SCUBA diving. If you get over the place, fly to Chaing Mai (Asia air $US80), grab a motorcycle ($US 6 per day) and ride up to Pai for a few days. You will see some real Thai stuff.

Wish I was going with you.

just watch out for those ladyboys! there are a lot of tranvestis there. also when you are buying all the "original" goodies of the stalls oon the street, dont settle for the price they give you,u can always bargain them down.trust me if you think the stuff they are giving you is cheap it can get much cheaper.

beware gary glitter

Don't get sucked into all the expensive restaurants. Try the little stalls for food, all I can say is mmmmmmmmmmm yum.

I dont mean to sound horrible and generalize the thai people but every single thai person who spoke to us had a hidden agenda and wanted to scam us / get money out of us etc. Whether or not we can blame them, considering we have so much compared to them and i guess they see westerners on holiday and see it as their only chance to make money for their family, never ever take for granted that they are only talking to you / being nice etc because they want something. That is the honest truth of what happened to me and my boyf, even where we thought we had made friends with this one thai women who was friendly to us every day then the very last day was really trying to push this jewellery on us that we really didnt want. The beachy places arent as bad as Bangkok but just be careful and never ever think that someone is being nice to you just for the hell of it. Guarenteed they want something back. Apart from that you will LOVE Thailand- I did!

Oh yeah and ALWAYS take you shoes off when going into a shop- even if they say its ok, they respect you a lot more if you take your shoes off. When we first arrived they would try charging us silly amounts in the shops and as soon as we copped onto the fact that they find it highly dirty for you to wear shoes inside (including shops) and started taking them off at the door (thank god for flip flops) they seemed to respect us a whole lot more (for respecting their culture) and they didnt try to extornionately rip us off after that.
