Ie in regular places food from street = 25 bhatt.
in tourist areas only resturants for 400 bhatt.
the street food is very good.
If you are from western country, cost of living is not a problem for you. i would say USD 1,000 per month excluding house should be enough
if you want move here ,,, its better you come here for short period ,,, and check yourself..... living standard depend on every body.... some can live in $500 --1000 and some $10000 not enough..... so dear come and check yourself 1st its better..... good luck...
I live here in Bangkok with my wife and daughter, Phuket tends to be a bit more expensive, but I think you could live on about $1,000 US very easily, not inc. housing. Of course that number could go up or down depending on your lifestyle. I don't believe your son is eligible to attend the Thai public schools unless you or your wife is Thai. My daughter attends an international school in BKK for about three thousand dollars a year, and there are 100's of international schools in Thailand. I think if you entered or into your browser you will get a wealth of information. Many of the schools are bi-lingual and offer many curriculums. I pay about $3,000 US per year, but the prices can vary quite a bit depending on the school, and as your son gets older the prices do go up depending on his grade level. In general, the schools are a fraction of what it might cost in a western country, and many of the teachers are from overseas. Highly recommended! Good luck!
I wonder whether you could do that, I mean moving to Thailand and get your kid in school just like that, the kids in Thailand do speak Thai and so most of the courses in schools; and that besides immigration visa for your whole family.
Just to give you a rough idea; a young newly graduated person from university get paid around 12,000 baht a month in Bangkok: that is some 35 baht per 1 USD. Middle income managers these days making around 40,000 baht monthly, and say higher management paid around 100,000 baht monthly. In banking and high finance, a VP get paid 150,000 baht plus a car allowance of 31,000 plus 10,000 allowance for your own driver and usually 1-5 months bonuses with medical expenses and provident funds contributed from the companies of 5-10 per cent depending on the companies and the scheme.
Government schools are cheap and they are discussing free schooling until highschool graduate, otherwise it may cost no more than 10,000 a year. Private schooling is a different story, which can cost you any where from 80,000-200,000 a year (that including international schools). Same goes with colleges. Government universities are heavily subsidised, looking to pay tuition less than 20,000 a year, but for private college can cost you 100,000-200,000. Post grad can cost lots more. MBA at Sasin, Chulalongkorn university cost around 1,000,000 baht until finish, which includes overseas exchange trip and a notebook; plus free dinners.
On average, a lower income Thai family can go by for 10,000-15,000 baht a month. To live comfortably (without housing) some 30,000-40,000 baht monthly for the whole family is OK.
To live luxuary, 100,000-200,000 baht monthly is ideal.
Hope that help. Besides, there's a platinum visa which may cost expat around a few million baht for permanent visa and membership to many golf courses and special treatments but that now is not extended to family.
It larglely would depend on how you wanted to live. If you eat Thai food and generally live as the Thais it could be very cheap, about 1/5th of the cost of living in the U.K.
Schools I don't know for sure, but Thai people send their kids to school and have to pay and they live on 1/5th of U.K. salaries. An English school would probably be more expensive but I still think the cost would be very low in comparison.
I would consider a Thai school if you will be there for some time as Thai children are very friendly and Thai culture is much better than in the West, being Buddhist based.
I am American living in Pattaya. I am single and have a lady friend. Our expenses over and above housing and utilities runs us about $500 per month but we do not go out every night either. Schooling here for foreign students runs around $12,500-$14,000 per student per year. I have a friend here with 2 children in school and tuiton costs him 1,000,000 Baht per year for the two of them. So realistically, you need to plan on a minimum of $4000 per month to live conservatively.
I suggest that you try it for 3 months first to see if it will suit your lifestyle. That way if it doesn't work out you can always go back home and chalk it up to learning. Keep in mind too that moving to another country can be a bit of culture shock. Your son and wife may love it on vacation (holiday) but not be so keen on a full time basis.
