I'm planning a trip to Phuket, and this is my 1st. Which beach is the best? Recommended hotels? Things to do?

Kata beach is my personal favorite. Patong is better for shopping nearby, but is overcrowded.

The best waterfall is Bang Pae. It is a beautiful hike with many pools to swim in along the way.

The best place to watch a sunset is Laem Phrom Thep. It overlooks the Andaman Sea from a high point on the SW tip of Phuket Island.

The best viewpoint to see the Andaman, all of Phuket, and Phang-Nga Bay at the same time is Khao Khad Viewpoint (Cape Panwa). It is a gazebo high a top a mountain in the middle of the island.

Best place to look for a hotel that fits you is Asia Rooms. Not always the cheapest, but best place to find the one you like.

haha i remember i went to karon beach.. and i remembered staying at Phuket Ocean Resort before the tsunami..lol.. phuket is nice!!! :D

if you are not looking for the nightclub scene...and want peace and quiet, try Kamala...very nice and quiet area...slightly off the beaten path....Kamala Dreams hotel is a wonderful ocean view hotel and a steal of a price

best price and cool beach bungalows at hotel site below.. this is where we stayed. Karon Beach, also Kata Beach just down the street, (need to drive though), really has great atmosphere and action
