You can also take the overnight bus. It's cheap and you leave in the evening and get to Phu in the morning. Note it's an all nighter bus ride with some stops for bio breaks.

air Asia is the cheapest carrier and you book it your self on line. Prices change the closer you get to flight time. Read the tickets carefully. They are real strict on baggage weight and will stick you with big bills if your luggage is over weight.

I flew air air asia a few weeks ago and weren't totally impressed. It's alittle too cheap for my liking but you can try http://www.fly12go.com/en/main.shtml who I've heard are better and just as cheap.
